Nerd Rage! DC Heroclix

Nerd Rage: DC heroclix.

Hello my fellow fans of all things nerdy, how are you today? Well I don't particularly care... today we're going to rage on about the board game HEROCLIX. Why? They keep on screwing up the opportunity to make my TWO favorite DC characters OF ALL TIME. That's right. ALL TIME!

Let's begin with a story. DC's mega-awesome alternate universe story Kingdom Come has a final battle with Superman versus Captain Marvel. The story comes to a climax. Meta vs. meta in an all out war between three fractions of superheroes. Superman's league vs. imprisoned heroes, vs. Batman's league. Superman can beat every other hero out there but one: Captain Marvel. Superman is rushing in to stop the imprisoned heroes from breaking out, and stopping his league from harming any of the inmates. Just before Superman can get to the battlefield Captain Marvel intercepts him and their fight ensues.

Like the clap of thunder their strikes echo across the land.

Alex Ross has said that Captain Marvel would have won in a heads up battle, but where is the dial for this guy? Oh yea, he's in the UNLEASHED set where he wouldn't even be able to go toe to toe with that set's Superman. Brave and the Bold was the last time there was a new Captain Marvel and they screwed it up! Billy Batson would have been a great alter-ego piece to turn into the new wizard's back half! This isn't the only one they screwed up though.

Kyle Rayner is my Green Lantern. The last GL, an artist who knows fear, and just an unlucky guy. He is all that embodies what I would have wanted to be in a superhero. I know that there are already a few sculpts of him, but not how I see him. Ion is the most ridiculous version of Kyle: omnipotent, time, and reality bending powers? Who wouldn't like those powers, especially in heroclix? Easily worth 400pts. He's the lantern that reignited the central power battery on Oa, brought back the Guardians, and restarted the corps! There is TECHNICALLY a version of Kyle as Ion, but come on! He's only got Quintessence for ONE click! Kyle was Ion not once but TWICE, in multiple issues! Cosmic Hulk/Cosmic Spider-man only had the Uni-power for a few issues!

Before Wizkids was bought up by NECA they said that Cosmic Spider-man would never be made because he wasn't a large part of the overall 616 universe, but not only do we have Cosmic Spidey, we also have Cosmic Hulk. I think it's about time we had a new Ion, or even an entire Green Lantern set with both Ions, Parallax, and even giant sized spectrum avatars! I know that there is a Hal Jordan Parallax, but he sucks and doesn't count. Con exclusive, no special TA, high points with odd powers and no move and attack? Yea he sucks. In this fantasy set I'd also like to see Hal Jordan the villain, with ten rings or however many he has, and some Green Lantern killing trait or ability.

Billy Batson is just begging for a alter-ego piece. A new sculpt would be great too but I'll take a old Superman, Thor, or anything really. Just give me something dynamic. Call down the lightning and make it so he can punch through Superman's defenses FROM RANGE. Shazam has to be better than the SR Black Adam though. Come on Wizkids... ONE TIME!

Tl:dr Treat yo self.

Hey guys, this is a little bit of a personal post. If you're reading this, I assume you are somewhat of a nerd, and that's ok. Don't let people push you around and let them change you; you will just resent them for not accepting who you are. Those that are closest to you especially. Family will try to change you out of fear of being ostracized from society, but explain to them that you're happy being who you are (unless you're not) but don't get upset. Having calm and mature conversations about your lifestyle choices is one of many different ways to show your family that this is who you really are, but getting upset is a sure fire way to show them that you are immature and invalidates your emotions/reasoning.

Girlfriends, amirite? I'm pretty sure this relates in someway to you ladies too, but this is just my experience. As a young nerd in the early 90's girls were this illusive thing and there was this one in particular that I crushed on so hard... it ends badly. We met in middle school, she was the more sporty type, more popular than I. So what would you do? Well I decided to become more like her, change myself completely. In high school over a summer I cut my hair short, got new clothes and pierced my ear. The next fall I was cool, still nerdy on the inside, but socially acceptable on the outside. That was literally all it took to be popular; look like everyone else. I would get attention from girls and it was great, but what I wanted was that one girl. We had dated off and on in high school, but nothing serious. In my senior year I went out with another girl but broke up after two and a half years.

After that I rekindled my friendship/relationship with my crush. I had just turned 20, and in my mind this was it; my big chance to be in a real relationship with my dream girl. I had cultivated a persona that she'd be attracted to, had a car (that was nearly as old as I), a job, and in community college. I loved this chick more than anything, I would do crazy shit for her. I would drive her hours away on her whim. I changed everything about myself to get her to love me. At the end of our three year relationship; she didn't. No amount of love, dedication, loyalty, kindness, or blind, stupid giving would change that. Through our relationship my heart shattered over and over; I kept giving, and loving, hoping that she would return my feelings, but she never did. I know that makes me a dumb ass, but I really thought that she was the one. She knew how much I would give to her; how much I blindly loved her and she took advantage of it. It made me cold and angry inside until I could bear it no longer and I broke up with her.

I moved on. I found someone who I respected and loves me like I love her. Everyone deserves to be cared for, and loved for who they are. I learned from my mistakes and I hope you picked up something too. Was it wrong for my ex to take advantage of me? No. It is simple human nature to take whatever you can get. It was my fault for not recognizing that was what was going on. I was blinded by my feelings for her; this is just a cautionary tale for you guys. Don't change who you are, give what you are getting in return, and love yourself before you love someone else.

Heroclix Chase worth owning

Galactic Guardians: Chase Thanos #49

Why? He's difficult to play @ 350pts but he is amazingly fun to set out on the board and just wreak house.

Chaos War: Sentry and Void #57

Sentroid was a game breaker. He could use multi attack to hypersonic speed twice. It literally broke the game. It was an awful feeling to sit down at a table with this guy across from you. If there was a game you NEEDED to win, this was the guy to play.

Incredible Hulk: Wolverage #51

At 120pts he's quite affordable on competitive teams, and with very stable numbers and loads of damage as well as the ability to transform into self healing Wolverines, it makes this piece well worth his points.

Captain America: Rojhaz #63

Rojhaz is no one man army, but point for point no other character busts stealth like Rojhaz, nor does he take up that much space on a 300pt team. He can take out any Batman with his special attack, traited stealth gives him a boost as well as his combat reflexes. Rojhaz also only commands $10 on the secondary market so he won't brake the bank, but he will rake in the points.

Hammer of Thor: Thor, Frog of Thunder #100

Throg is a 72 point beat stick. Just push him off the first click and use your remaining 4 to pass out damage as you see fit, but the caveat here is that to purchase one WILL cost you an arm, a leg, and your first TWO children. Ok, he's not THAT expensive, but $40 is pretty expensive for a figure that only has 5 clicks and the first one only has toughness.

 Batman: The Insider #55

The Insider is Bruce Wayne returned from the future that Darkseid tossed him into. He might be the greatest 100pt taxi ever. He can taxi in for 7 squares for free. It makes ranged combat expert figs devastating because he can drop in and pull out every turn. Not only that, he himself can drop into combat and attack from stealth for an enhanced 9 move running shot! He is fairly cheap on ebay at about $10-$20 right now, and at the price it's a steal!

 Superman: Superman #57

This figure is annoying on it's own, but pair him with the likes of the Eradicator from the same set and this piece really starts to shine. This Superman's trait is that when he is KO'd the first time he gets set back to click #6 and all his stats are up by +1, as well as any other character whose trait is Reign of the Supermen. Those two are my go to team when I want to play a quick but lazy team. Theme team bonus on a 300pt game gives me enough probability control to work with, and at about $10 he's cheap enough to get without going broke.

That's pretty much it. White Lantern Sinestro isn't a chase per se, but really worth getting, as are most of the White Lanterns but Sinestro is on the top of that heap. Crisis 100 and 105 are great, but way, WAY too expensive, and very limited in being actually able to play them. Lamppost and Sinestro Batman are also way too expensive to purchase and use.

Love affair with Kyle

I am a 30 year old man. I love all things nerdy/geeky. I am most fanatical about comic books. I enjoy video games and movies as well. My love of comics trump all others because of one character; Kyle Rayner. DC comics is the greatest source of fantasy escapism for young males with problem lives. The reason I associated myself with this new Green Lantern was because he was an artist like I wanted to be, and unlike any other GL he was not without fear. Rayner was a regular guy, just like me, a shmoe who could draw, and all of a sudden receive the most powerful weapon in all the universe. Who wouldn't like that? As it turns out things don't come up all roses for Kyle. The woman he was madly in love with; the woman he lived for; the one that encouraged him; and saw his potential as a hero; ends up folded in half, dead in her own fridge. Damn. That was rough. The more powerful Kyle becomes, the less lucky he is in his personal life.

Kyle's love life is always in shambles. He gets a good thing going in one book, and then he spends arcs trying to pick up the shattered pieces. For a little while regular ole Kyle becomes the most powerful being in existence. Eat that Superman! Kyle's powers included the ability to bend space, time and reality. He became omnipotent and able to exist in multiple places at different times, maybe even in different planes of existence! It's no wonder that he's my favorite DC character!

Detective Comics is the fantasy world for those to wish to be invulnerable to everything. Most of the people I know who don't like DC don't like it for this reason. I agree that you don't worry for the character's safety etc. etc. but that isn't what DC is about. The arcs here are about the ability to do more, and doing it. The character abilities are sheer escapism and about never getting hurt. This is why I loved DC comics; I always wanted to throw up a hard light shield and just fly away from all of my problems... and this is still why I'm waiting for my power ring.

Ion. Kyle at his greatest.
